Alexandria Coe is an artist specialising in the intricate yet simplified art of figure drawing, showcasing her diverse skills in drawing, painting, and textiles.

Originally studying Textile design at Chelsea College of Art and then moving onto a Masters in communication at CSM she found new focus in drawing. For the past seven years she has dedicated her time to exploring the relationship with the body within art and design. She also teaches comprehensive life drawing class focused on the complexities of the human body, alongside discussions of gender and sexuality. Her artwork prominently features a nude model with the intention to abstract and simplify.

Alexandria’s intention is to redefine the female experience while promoting a balanced and neutral perspective on the subject. “From an early adult I had a very difficult relationship with my body and my sense of identity – later this would be the catalyst to the subject I still have today. I wanted to understand how I could sit with ease within a society which is very confining for women but at once being accepted within it . Both the act of drawing and the subject of the body felt very healing.”

“I can’t help but be inspired by Picasso’s work. Perhaps even more since moving to Greece and seeing all the ways in which ancient art had inspired him, particularly the Minoans. He is a great example of dabbling in all fields and progression from realism to a form of abstract. Of course I’m also inspired by Schiele – heavily, Latrec, Matisse and contemporary’s like Emin. There are also so many modern day painters I love. I recently discovered Ella Kruglyanskaya. Her early drawings really inspire, for that element of playfulness within the political, which I think is really strong.”
