David is a self-taught, London based painter interested in storytelling and social commentary.
He conveys narratives drawn from his own personal experience and every day encounters mingled with popular culture and iconography. These predominantly figurative scenes are expressed through a fast paced, raw and emotive style all suffused with a healthy dose of humour.
David’s inspiration can come from anywhere. Be it an overheard soundbite, an eccentric local character, an arresting image in a magazine, his current play list or even his wife’s dance moves. From these varied influences David’s work is an engaging response to the world around him, piecing together often surprising elements into colourful, playful works with layers of meaning.
Whilst David’s work often begins with an intentional starting point he allows the work to develop in a spontaneous unplanned manner that serves the image and gives his work dynamic energy and urgency.
David’s work is in private collections all around the world and he has exhibited internationally including in the USA, Spain, Australia and Taiwan.
