Aline Gaiad

Aline Gaiad is a Brazilian artist known for her abstract paintings and the bold gestural marks ever present in her work. Objects from her life, memories, scents and room portraits have been constant themes in her paintings.

“I develop my ideas by drawing inspiration from two distinct sources: my admiration for 17th-century houses and my fascination with old photographs. The architectural beauty and intricate details of historical houses spark my imagination, while old photographs evoke a sense of nostalgia and storytelling. Combining these influences, I weave together elements of the past and present to create unique artistic concepts that reflect my artistic vision.”

Aline works mainly with acrylics, favouring the immediacy of this medium for building layers, and also turns to oil sticks and pastels. Adding occasional collage to her paintings gives them texture and creates intriguing shadows which draw the viewer in.

Aline was raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in a family of artists and collectors. She began her early career as a photojournalist, travelling her home country and developing her photographic eye. This attention to detail and composition can be seen in her paintings today. She is now living and working in West London, England.
